Hmmm... turkey or venison? (1 August)

I shot both, but only with my camera. This picture was taken during a brief hike in Great Basin National Park in Nevada. We had just arrived there after an almost 230 mile long journey and, with bad weather threatening, decided to do a photo safari instead of a real hike.

Our drive from Provo in Utah to Baker in Nevada was an amazing contrast to our trip the day before. Instead of forests and lakes, we had miles and miles of sagebrush and distant mountains. There was little traffic on our route, which made it a peaceful if somewhat boring advent. Soon after crossing the border though, we were faced with the mountains of the Great Basin and a 12 mile road of 8% ascent took us up to the high trailheads.

Utah is a fascinating State with mountains and forests and lakes in the north, vast arid plains in the west and those fabulous National Parks in the south: Zion and Bryce. It was a surprise and a pleasure to get to know more about this wonderful State.
